Curling, also known as sliding stones on a sheet of ice, is a throwing competition on ice as a team. It is a Winter Olympic competition and has a curling world championship. There are 2 events for men and women, and each team consists of four players. Curling is in the shape of a round pot, made of Scottish natural granite without mica, and all the natural granite used in the manufacture of high-quality curling in the world is produced in a small island off the coast of Scotland, and only the Scots master the art of making world-leading curling.

The circumference of the curling stone is approximately 91.44 cm, the height (from the bottom to the top of the stone) is 11.43 cm, and the maximum weight (including the handle and pin) is 19.96 kg. Sweeping a rock is to reduce the friction between the curling and the ice surface. Some people call curling "chess on ice", which is a good metaphor for the mystery and elegance of curling.

Curling Venue Specifications

Venue orientation:

★There is no orientation requirement when there are no external lighting windows in the indoor venue. When direct light enters the room, the influence of light on the venue should be considered.

Venue Specifications:

★The playing surface is rectangular. This area can be marked by a line or by placing partitions on the boundary. The race track shall be surrounded by 100mm (width) × 100mm (height) black sponge strips. From the inner edge of the sponge strip, the length of the venue is 45.75m and the width is 5.00m.

★When the existing field is not enough to place a track of the above scale, the length of the field can be reduced to 44.50m and the width can be reduced to 4.42m.

★The ice layer in the track must have clearly visible marking lines. The marking lines are divided into Teeline, backline, hogline, centreline, hackline. Line width and color are determined according to the latest regulations.

◎Teeline: The center of the line is 17.375m away from the center of the track, one on each side of the center of the track.

◎Backline: The edge of the line is 1.829m away from the center of the Teeline, one on each side of the center of the track.

Hogline: The inner edge of the line is 6.401m from the center of the T line, one on each side of the center of the track.

◎ Centreline: connect the center of two Teelines and extend 3.658m to both ends respectively.

Hackline: The line is 475mm long, parallel to the Teeline, and located at both ends of the centreline.

◎Button: at the intersection of the Teeline and the centerline. With this as the center, there is a house consisting of four concentric circles at each end of the track. The radius of the outer edge of the largest circle from the center is 1.829m, the radius of the second circle is 1.219m, the radius of the third circle is 0.610m, and the minimum radius of the innermost circle is 152.4mm. The line color is determined according to the latest regulations.

★A maximum of 5 curling pitches can be arranged in the standard ice rink.

Curling Venue Environment and Drainage

★ Temperature and humidity: The indoor temperature of the space above 1.5m above the ice surface should be kept at 8℃~10℃, and the humidity should be 50%~60%. There should be no moving convection of air above the ice surface.

★ Requirements for the ground structure under the ice layer:

◎The ground surface layer under the ice layer should be made of frost-resistant concrete, with uniform thickness, and the height difference should be controlled within ±5mm, and the load on the site should be fully considered. The strength of concrete should be C30~C40.

◎The ground under the ice layer should be able to withstand repeated thermal expansion and contraction due to temperature changes.

◎There should be measures to prevent the surface layer from freezing.

◎A reliable waterproof layer must be set up on the ground under the ice layer.

★ Ice layer technical requirements:

◎Ice thickness: 40mm~50mm.

◎Ice surface temperature: -5.0℃~-6.5℃.

◎Ice surface flatness: The ice surface should be smooth and flat, and there should be no unevenness, no bulges, grooves, pits or undulations.

★ Ice-making requirements: According to the different conditions of the ice surface, choose spray heads with different apertures. It is advisable to use softened mineral water or pure water and heat it to about 50 ℃ for spraying and ice-making. The ice surface needs to be polished to ensure that the ice surface is smooth and flat.

★ Venue drainage: The drainage of the artificial ice rink mainly considers the drainage when the ice is melted. Drainage ditches are set up on both sides of the ice rink, and a snow melting pool is also provided.
