According to the Spanish "20 Minutes" daily report on November 15, since FIFA awarded Qatar the right to host the 2022 World Cup 10 years ago, Qatar has chosen various options, remodeled several stadiums and most of them were built using the latest technology. The following is an introduction to the 8 stadiums of this World Cup.
1. Ras Abu Aboud Stadium
With a capacity of 40,000 spectators, it is notable for being constructed primarily from shipping containers, which gives it a unique feature: it is a completely mobile football stadium. It was officially unveiled during the 2021 Arab Cup and will be dismantled after the World Cup. The group stage and round of 16 matches will be held here.
2. Al Thumama Stadium
It has 40,000 seats and its design was inspired by the traditional braided bonnet worn by men in the Arab region. After the World Cup, half of its seats will be donated for other uses, and parts of its interior will be converted into clinics and hotels. During the World Cup, the group stage, round of 16 and quarter-finals will be held here.
3. Khalifa International Stadium
Founded in 1976, it has a long history as a venue for major sporting events. As Qatar's national stadium, the stadium underwent a massive renovation for the 2022 World Cup, with a capacity of more than 45,000 spectators and an innovative LED lighting system. The World Cup group stage, round of 16 and third place match will be held there.
4. Lusail Stadium
On December 18, 2022, the eyes of fans all over the world will focus on this magnificent building that can accommodate 80,000 people, where the World Cup final will be staged. A number of advanced technologies were used in the construction of the stadium. After the World Cup, half of its space will be transformed into a multi-functional community with schools, clinics, shops and other public facilities. During the World Cup, the group stage, round of 16, semi-finals and final will be held here.
5. Al-Bayt Stadium
The design of the stadium is inspired by the traditional tents used by nomads in Qatar and the Gulf region. The roof can be opened and closed, and it can accommodate 60,000 spectators. Seats on the upper level of the Gulf Stadium will be removed after the World Cup in Qatar to be donated to developing countries in need of sports infrastructure. The stadium will host the World Cup opener and will also host the group stage, round of 16 and semi-finals.
6. Al-Janoub Stadium
The stadium, about 15 kilometers from Doha, is the first venue to be built entirely for Qatar 2022, featuring a retractable roof cooled by a solar-powered system. The stadium presents one of the most distinctive silhouettes of any World Cup venue, with a neo-futuristic design inspired by the dhows that once served as the backbone of Qatar's economic development. It can accommodate 40,000 spectators and will host the group stage until the round of 16.
7. Al Rayyan Stadium
The stadium, which can accommodate more than 40,000 people, is adjacent to the desert and can clearly feel the culture of Qatar. The old stadium was completed as early as 2003. In order to host this World Cup, 90% of its materials were recycled and used to build this new stadium. During the World Cup, the group stage and round of 16 matches will be held here.
8. Education City Stadium
The Education City area is a symbol of innovation and development for the city and the country of Qatar. The Education City Stadium can accommodate more than 40,000 spectators. After the World Cup, the capacity of the venue will be reduced by half, and 20,000 seats in the stadium will be donated to stadiums in developing countries. During the World Cup, group matches and quarter-finals will be held here.
